1 Introduction

The importance of university English education in enhancing a country's soft power under the changing international communication landscape was discussed, emphasizing the necessity of cultivating students' ability to speak foreign languages. The release of the "Comprehensive Course on Understanding Contemporary Chinese College English" aims to enhance students' cross-cultural communication skills and international communication literacy through the integration of textbooks and resources. At the same time, it pointed out the problem of tight class hours in college English teaching and shared some exploratory experiences of universities in the integration and use of textbooks. Finally, the article takes "Understanding" and "New College English" as examples to explore four strategies: theme integration, skill integration, task integration, and feature integration, providing reference for the reform of college English teaching and the cultivation of international communication talents.

2 Fusion Strategy

Four strategies for the integration of college English textbooks were discussed: theme integration, skill integration, task integration, and feature integration. Theme fusion integrates units with similar themes from two sets of textbooks, designs content driven teaching tasks, and promotes the improvement of students' language skills and cross-cultural understanding abilities. Skill integration focuses on selecting similar core language skills from two sets of textbooks, designing teaching activities, and achieving skill transfer and ability enhancement. Task fusion integrates the comprehensive tasks of units in two sets of textbooks to design high-order output tasks that are both interesting and contemporary, achieving a deep integration of language ability, cultural awareness, and value guidance. Characteristic integration refers to the targeted integration of two sets of teaching materials based on the professional advantages and talent cultivation positioning of the institution, achieving a deep integration of teaching content and educational goals. These strategies aim to improve the effectiveness of college English teaching, cultivate students' international communication literacy, and help students effectively spread the voice of China in the international context.

3 Conclusion

The importance of college English courses in building international communication capabilities in the new era was emphasized, pointing out that they not only impart language knowledge, but also cultivate students' cross-cultural communication, critical thinking, and international communication abilities. Through the integration practice of "Understanding" and "New Compilation" textbooks, this paper explores the integration path of themes, skills, tasks, and characteristics, and analyzes the positive role of these paths in strengthening the ideological and political connotation of the curriculum, expanding the depth of teaching content, and enhancing students' comprehensive abilities. At the same time, it is pointed out that the integration strategy is not used in isolation in practical teaching, and needs to be comprehensively applied in combination with factors such as the textbook system, students' language proficiency, and curriculum design. The integration of teaching materials faces challenges such as lesson scheduling and content coherence, and needs to be continuously optimized in teaching practice. In the future, college English courses should continue to explore diverse models of textbook integration, maximize the effectiveness of teaching resources, and cultivate high-quality composite talents with patriotism and global perspectives.
