2 What Kind of China Stories to Tell

This section underscores the importance of helping college students understand contemporary China, which involves not only knowledge of China's history, culture, and developmental status but also establishing a comprehensive, profound, and rational cognitive framework to grasp China's future direction and assume social responsibilities in a globalized context. National consciousness is regarded as the core of national spirit, comprising three dimensions: national cognition, national identity, and national aspiration, with national cognition as the foundation. The chapter describes contemporary China from six dimensions—political, economic, social, cultural, ecological, and international—highlighting China's achievements and developmental directions in these fields. It also points out the importance of telling China's stories under conditions of comprehensive opening-up, emphasizing that Chinese youth in the new era should prioritize developing national consciousness while broadening their international perspectives.
