Emphasis was placed on the position of communicative competence as a core concept in the field of second language research, as well as its theoretical support for language teaching and assessment. At the same time, it was pointed out that there is currently a lack of comprehensive works that cover the theoretical foundation, methodology, and practical applications of communicative competence. The book "Theory, Methods, and Applications of Second Language Communicative Competence" published by Routledge in 2023, compiled by Kanwit and Solon, explores the communicative competence of second language learners from a multidimensional perspective and fills this gap. The book defines communicative competence as the core language skill, including the ability to adjust language use and apply knowledge and skills to achieve effective communication based on context. Using a multidisciplinary and critical perspective, it deeply explores the theoretical development, framework construction, empirical research, and future research directions of communicative competence.
