The Significance of Introducing German Sinology and Advancing the Discipline

Discussed the impact of overseas Sinology on the Chinese academic community after the reform and opening up, especially the introduction of German Sinology. It is pointed out that the translation and publication of German Sinology in China are relatively limited, and there is a lack of systematic engineering display. Emphasizing the importance of elevating Sinology research to the level of macro academic history, it is believed that the history of German Sinology is an area that the Chinese academic community should pay special attention to. It mentioned the translation work of Gu Bin's 10 volume "History of Chinese Literature" and the efforts of Chinese scholars in German Sinology research. At the same time, it is pointed out that compared with native language scholars, foreign language scholars tend to grasp the overall development of a country, which is reflected in the research of literary history and academic history.

German Sinology in the Perspective of Sinology Journals: A Perspective from International Sinology

The rise of academic history research in the local context since the 1990s was discussed, emphasizing the special significance of academic history research, which recognizes the inherent independent logic of human knowledge exploration and creation, and adheres to the boundaries of knowledge and academic dignity on the basis of objective understanding of the real society. The article points out that the study of the history of Sinology is one of the core pillars of civilization in the history of world civilization, and it is a relatively advantageous and easy to start field for Chinese scholars. By analyzing the content of German Sinology published in International Sinology over the past 30 years, the article divides it into four categories: 1) review and introduction articles on German Sinology; 2) Articles focusing on sinological figures; 3) Articles related to the history of Sino German cultural relations; 4) Focused research on important figures such as Wei Lixian. The article argues that the academic history perspective of "International Sinology" is relatively comprehensive, showing sufficient recognition and emphasis on German Sinology. At the same time, the article also mentioned the study of Sinology in Switzerland and Austria, although the publication of International Sinology in this field is relatively weak. Finally, the article emphasizes that the basic positioning of Sinology research should be based on academic history, which is determined by the fundamental characteristics of the discipline's birth, academic laws, and long-term planning.

Emphasis was placed on the importance of examining German Sinology in a broader context, considering it a microcosm of the evolution of German politics and humanities. The article proposes that the history of Sinology should reflect the changes and interactive connections in German academic history. German Sinology research has multiple functions, including clarifying disciplinary history, stimulating theoretical thinking, providing materials for communication history, linking cultural history and social history scenes, and serving as a cross system function of integrated cultural unit complexes. The article also discusses the development process and publishing philosophy of the International Journal of Sinology, emphasizing its importance in promoting, disseminating, and academic positions in Chinese culture. It also proposes the theoretical dimensions and practical sense of Sinology history research from the perspective of overseas Chinese studies. Finally, the article calls on academic journals to play a bridging and mapping role in the era of globalization, contributing to the world's academic community.
