The 2024 China English Teaching Seminar was successfully held in Dalian, hosted by the English Teaching Research Branch of the China English Chinese Comparative Research Association and organized by Dalian Foreign Studies University. The conference focuses on "cross integration and collaborative innovation: comprehensively improving the quality of independent talent cultivation", with 5 keynote speeches, 11 thematic discussions, 16 group speeches, 1 workshop, and 1 chief editor forum. More than 200 experts, scholars, teachers, and students attended the conference offline, and over 30000 people watched it online.

Opening Ceremony: Taking on the Mission of Building a Strong Education Country and Promoting Innovation in Foreign Language Education

Introduced the important speeches at the opening ceremony of the 2024 China English Teaching Seminar. President Sun Youzhong emphasized the golden age of foreign language education in China, advocating the construction of an independent knowledge system and promoting international exchanges. President Liu Hong emphasized the importance of cultivating foreign language talents in the new era and introduced the research results of Dalian Foreign Studies University. Vice Editor in Chief Chang Xiaoling discussed the innovative features of the seminar topics and shared the new explorations and achievements of Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Lv Chunmei.

Main report: Sharing cross disciplinary perspectives to inspire educational and teaching reform

Professor Azirah Binti Hashim, former president of the International Society of Applied Linguistics, discussed the application of English in higher education in ASEAN countries, analyzed the challenges brought by the rise of English status, and called for the development of policies that balance global competitiveness and local language protection. Professor Wen Qiufang from Beijing Foreign Studies University had an in-depth discussion on the theory and practice of building a community of cloud foreign language teachers, sharing the achievements and reflections of the construction. Professor Chang Junyue from Dalian Foreign Studies University shared the exploration and practice of cultivating regional and national studies majors in English majors, providing reference for talent cultivation. Professor Xu Jinfen from Huazhong University of Science and Technology emphasized the core role of teachers' teaching and research literacy in the development of foreign language education. Professor Liu Fengguang from Dalian Foreign Studies University has studied the "critical" disciplinary behavior of Chinese as a foreign language, providing insights for pragmatic learning and teaching.

Special topic discussion, group speeches, workshops, editor in chief forum: Focusing on hot topics in foreign language education, sharing research and practical achievements

Introduced the rich activities and achievements of the 2024 China English Teaching Seminar. In 11 special seminars, 69 experts and scholars expressed their opinions on multiple hot topics in foreign language education, sharing research results and practical experience. In the 16 group speaking sessions, experts and scholars conducted academic discussions on the multidimensional connotations of talent cultivation and foreign language education, promoting the implementation of talent cultivation concepts. During the workshop, 8 experts and scholars discussed new concepts and paths for foreign language curriculum construction. During the editor in chief forum, several professors introduced the characteristics of the journal and discussed the leading role of foreign language journals in talent cultivation. At the closing ceremony of the conference, Professor Liu Fengguang and Professor Chang Junyue delivered closing speeches and concluding remarks respectively, emphasizing the innovation of the conference and its inspiration for foreign language teaching. The English Teaching Research Branch of the Chinese English Chinese Comparative Research Association will continue to provide a communication platform for English teachers and promote innovative development in foreign language teaching.
