The 2022 China English Teaching Seminar was successfully held with the theme of "Building First Class Curriculum and Implementing Moral Education". The conference is rich in content, including keynote speeches, thematic discussions, group speeches, and multimodal speeches. Adopting a combination of online and offline methods, the School of Foreign Languages at Nankai University has set up an offline venue, with experts, scholars, and teachers from nearly a hundred universities participating, and 20000 foreign language teachers and students watching online.

Cloud gathering, grand event opening

Professor Sun Youzhong emphasized the importance of the construction of new liberal arts, curriculum ideology and politics, and the three in one work in his opening speech. He encouraged colleagues in the foreign language field to study real problems, produce original results, deepen curriculum ideology and politics, and achieve the trinity of knowledge imparting, value shaping, and ability cultivation. Professor Liang Qi, on behalf of Nankai University, welcomed the attendees and emphasized that China's foreign language education should focus on first-class curriculum construction and effective teaching strategies, and explore the integration of educational technology and English teaching. Professor Yan Guodong reviewed the history and achievements of the School of Foreign Languages at Nankai University, and promised to continue to adhere to the principle of fostering virtue and improving the quality of talent cultivation. Vice Editor in Chief Chang Xiaoling thanked the organizing committee and the society for their efforts, introduced the work of Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press in textbook construction, teaching research, teacher development, and digital education, and expressed the determination to work together with experts and scholars to promote innovative development of foreign language teaching, cultivate high-quality foreign language talents, and serve national strategic goals.

Analysis of the keynote speech on the construction of first-class courses

Professor Anthony delved into the instructional design of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), analyzed its teaching pillars, and shared teaching resources. Professor Chang Junyue reflected on the transformation of foreign language education and proposed the concept of content language integration education. Professor Zhang Lian analyzed the development trend of applied linguistics and emphasized the importance of localization. Professor Zhang Xin demonstrated the teaching practice of the English series textbook "Understanding Contemporary China". Professor Zhang Wenzhong discussed the role of virtual teaching and research rooms in English curriculum co construction and proposed research directions for co construction of courses.

Parallel meeting to comprehensively explore curriculum construction

This conference focuses on the construction and innovation of foreign language courses, and deeply explores how to build first-class English courses and implement moral education in teaching management practices. 15 special seminars were hosted by multiple professors, with 91 experts and scholars expressing their opinions and sharing their achievements on multiple topics, providing inspiration for English teaching practice and research. The thematic research topics are comprehensive and rich, reflecting the hot topics of foreign language curriculum construction research in China and in-depth thinking on different types of courses. In 23 group presentations and 3 multimodal presentations, 110 scholars conducted discussions and exchanges on relevant topics. The conference showcased the "five point" characteristics of English teaching research results, namely keeping up with hot topics, focusing on key points, pointing directly to pain points, leveraging disciplinary characteristics, and proposing innovative points. These characteristics directly affect the achievement of the national talent training goals for English teaching services. The conference provided a communication platform for foreign language teachers and researchers, and presented a high-end academic feast for colleagues in the national English community. At the closing ceremony, Professor Zhang Wenzhong conducted a comprehensive review and summary of the seminar, and looked forward to the future and development of English teaching. The next conference is planned to be held offline in Chengdu to continue exploring the theory and practice of English teaching.
