On September 13, 2022, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and the Ministry of Education of China listed regional studies as a first level discipline, marking the rapid development stage of the discipline construction of regional studies in China. This discipline aims to promote the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, enhance international understanding, and build a community with a shared future for mankind. It has the characteristics of disciplinary integration, integration of Chinese and foreign cultures, connection between ancient and modern times, and integration of knowledge and action. Regional studies, international communication studies, and international organization research jointly undertake the mission of the times and are the growth points of independent knowledge system innovation. Regional studies face challenges in constructing disciplinary ontology, talent cultivation system, and scientific research service system, as well as the "five degree integration" challenges of global coverage breadth, long-term research depth, disciplinary integration intensity, demand response speed, and cross validation accuracy. To tackle these challenges, it is necessary to cultivate a new ecosystem of disciplines, develop disciplinary communities, integrate global disciplinary resources, and provide disciplinary public goods. As a pioneer in interdisciplinary research on countries and regions, Beijing Foreign Studies University will deepen its cultivation in the three major fields of global language, global culture, and global governance, and promote regional and country studies towards deep globalization. Regional and Global Development "has been renamed as" Regional and Country Studies Journal ", aiming to more accurately serve the construction of regional and country studies disciplines, and add new momentum and advantages to the development of China's regional and country studies disciplines. The construction of regional studies in China should effectively respond to national needs, be rooted in the foundation of disciplinary development, embody the concept of "the great nation", practice the concept of "a community with a shared future for mankind", and form a discipline system, academic system, and discourse system with Chinese characteristics and world-class standards. We are willing to work together with our academic colleagues and friends from all walks of life to contribute our wisdom and strength to the realization of a new leap in the construction of the discipline of China's regional national studies, the service of Chinese path to modernization, and the promotion of the construction of a "community with a shared future for mankind".
