AI 摘要

1 Introduction

This article introduces the definition, singularity, and principle of unidentifiable terminology, as well as the universality of the phenomenon of multiple translations of civil aviation terminology and the challenges it poses to aviation English teaching and translation work. The author will explore the phenomenon of multiple translations of civil aviation terminology based on a self built corpus, using "go around" as an example.

2. Research Background and Design

This article introduces the composition of the International Civil Aviation Organization's English Chinese Bilingual Parallel Corpus (ICAOPC), including documents such as the annexes to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, with a total of 53704 aligned sentences. Emphasis was placed on the importance of the annexes to the Convention on International Civil Aviation and the official language situation of the International Civil Aviation Organization. Defined the term 'go around' and summarized its definition from three authoritative sources, emphasizing that it is a 'process' that includes various factors. Proposed research questions, including the corresponding terminology of "go around" in English, translation rationality, and implications for the standardization of civil aviation terminology.

3. Analysis of research results

By using the search tool BFSU ParaConc with "go around" as the keyword, 112 pairs of parallel sentences were obtained, and after manual intervention, 106 pairs of effective sentences were obtained. In these sentence pairs, 'go around' appears 109 times, corresponding to English terms such as missed approach, balled landing, go around, and overshoot. The article analyzed the correspondence between "go around" and these four English terms, and found that the "missed approach" should be translated as "terminate approach" or "interrupt approach", while the concept of "go around" in Chinese is the closest. Balked landing should be translated as "interrupted landing" or "landing failure", while overshoot can be translated as "go around" in specific contexts. Verified by other corpora, go around and missed approach are commonly used in regulatory operations, while balled landing and overshoot are more commonly used in ordinary language expression environments. The article concludes with suggestions for the English Chinese translation of relevant terms, emphasizing the importance of accurate language expression for the safety of civil aviation operations.

4 Discussion and Inspiration

Explored the issue of English Chinese translation of civil aviation terminology "go around" based on corpus, and proposed general principles for translating scientific and technological terminology. Firstly, terminology translation should seek equivalence in the core connotations of concepts, while flexibly adapting to the specific requirements of different professional contexts. Secondly, maintaining consistency between derived terms is an important reference factor in terminology translation. In addition, when translating, it is necessary to carefully consider the cognitive framework of the recipient to ensure that the translation is both faithful to the original text and easy for the target audience to understand. The application of corpora, especially high-quality parallel corpora, can improve the efficiency and accuracy of terminology translation, but it needs to be combined with qualitative methods. Finally, in the process of standardizing terminology, a dynamic standardization mechanism should be established, a "standardized terminology database" should be constructed, attention should be paid to the latest achievements in technological development, industry feedback should be actively absorbed, and the results of terminology translation and naming should be optimized.

5 Conclusion

This chapter points out that although the civil aviation terms "go around," "missed approach," "balled landing," and "overshoot" have different connotations, they are often translated as "go around," reflecting the challenge of standardizing civil aviation terminology. The study emphasizes the differences between China's civil aviation terminology system and the international community, and the need to adapt to international promotion. The proposed analytical framework and principles are applicable to other fields, emphasizing that terminology translation needs to consider conceptual accuracy, dynamism, and cognitive contextual complexity to ensure effective knowledge dissemination and standardized representation.
