On September 13, 2022, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and the Ministry of Education of China listed regional studies as a first level discipline, marking the rapid development stage of the discipline construction. Regional studies aim to promote the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, enhance international understanding, and build a community with a shared future for mankind. This discipline, together with international communication studies and international organization research, undertakes the mission of the times and is a growth point for independent knowledge system innovation. Regional studies face challenges such as disciplinary ontology, talent cultivation, and scientific research services, and need to achieve a "five degree integration" of global coverage, long-term research, disciplinary integration, demand response, and cross validation. To this end, it is necessary to promote the global construction of China's regional and national studies, cultivate a new ecology of disciplines, and develop disciplinary communities. As one of the earliest universities in China to conduct interdisciplinary research on national and regional studies, Beijing Foreign Studies University will deeply cultivate the fields of global language, culture, and governance, and promote the development of regional and national studies towards deep globalization. Regional and Global Development has been renamed as Regional and National Studies Journal, aiming to provide more accurate services for discipline construction and add new momentum to the development of regional and national disciplines in China. The construction of regional studies in China needs to respond to national needs, reflect the "greatness of the country", practice the concept of "a community with a shared future for mankind", and form a discipline system with Chinese characteristics and world-class standards. We are willing to join hands with our academic colleagues and friends from all walks of life to contribute our wisdom and strength to the realization of a new leap in the discipline construction of China's regional national studies, serve Chinese path to modernization, and promote the construction of a "community with a shared future for mankind".
