1 Introduction

Emphasis was placed on the importance of integrating English skills with professional knowledge in the context of the "New Liberal Arts", highlighting the role of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in cultivating the specific needs of foreign language learners. The article focuses on the shortcomings of ESP writing research in the aviation field, especially the writing of accident investigation reports. By analyzing the investigation report of the Uberingen accident in Germany, this paper explores the writing of accident investigation reports under the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), emphasizes the importance of English as the global aviation language, and conducts in-depth analysis of English aviation accident investigation reports from the perspectives of structure, content, and language.

Application of Technical Writing Principles in Accident Investigation Reports

Technical writing is crucial for the writing of accident investigation reports under the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization, and contributes to global aviation cooperation. Although technical writing has matured in Europe and America, China is still in the development stage and lacks case studies for analysis. The principles of technical writing include organization, purposefulness, precision, standardization, authority, and feasibility, which are particularly important in accident investigation reports. The survey report used in the study comes from an authoritative aviation safety website, emphasizing the crucial role of language in accident descriptions. Following these principles can improve the quality of English investigation reports on aviation accidents in China, comply with international standards, and promote the internationalization of aviation safety.

3. Analysis of report characteristics

Deeply analyzed the writing characteristics of accident investigation reports under the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization. The organization of report structure and format is crucial for the effectiveness of technical communication. By constructing a progressive structural framework and using short titles to simplify text structure, the layout and organization of technical writing are reflected. The "Uberingen Accident Investigation Report" presents four parts including abbreviations, accident overview, main text, and appendices. The main text is further subdivided into factual information, cause analysis, investigation conclusions, and safety recommendations. The abbreviations section lists the abbreviations and full names of professional terms, the accident overview provides the composition of the investigation department and basic information about the accident, the main text describes in detail the true situation of the incident, analyzes and discusses safety hazards, summarizes the direct causes and contributing factors of the accident in the investigation conclusion, and provides specific and actionable suggestions for all parties involved in the accident. The appendix contains other relevant information for a better understanding of the survey report. Attachment 13 provides a clear framework for the investigation report of aviation accidents, reducing the arbitrariness of technical information organization and promoting the standardization of international civil aviation standards.

4 inspirations for aviation English teaching

Explored the application of aviation English teaching in accident investigation report writing, emphasizing the importance of establishing an aviation English corpus to help students understand the characteristics and industry features of aviation English. Based on the language itself, it is proposed to cultivate students' language skills and understanding of technical texts by analyzing the structure and language characteristics of accident investigation reports. At the same time, the importance of learning aviation safety information from crises was emphasized, as well as strengthening interaction with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to improve the readability and dissemination of accident reports and promote global civil aviation safety.

5 Conclusion

ICAO promotes civil aviation safety through accident investigations, and technical text writers need to translate scientific and technological information into understandable language. The accident investigation report is an important corpus of aviation English. Learning it helps to improve English and professional knowledge, integrate technical writing with foreign language education, cultivate composite talents in the aviation field, serve internationalization strategies, and enhance the level of civil aviation governance. Civil aviation safety culture is an important area of national security, and sustained safety is the strategic core of building a strong civil aviation country. Civil aviation adheres to the concept of "putting people first and life first", learns from accident investigations, improves safety management, implements the overall national security concept, and holds the safety bottom line. Aviation English is interdisciplinary, combining technical writing principles to analyze accident reports, promoting ESP teaching research, accurately aligning with industry needs, fully implementing the overall national security concept, and integrating the "Three Reverences" civil aviation spirit into teaching and daily actions.
