Xiezi is a mythical animal in ancient legends, and has the ability to distinguish right from wrong. The body size varies, resembling a qilin in appearance, with a black body, bright eyes, and a unicorn on the forehead. In a dispute, Xiezi will use her horn to fight against the unjust people. Legend has it that Xiezhi was used by Gao Tao as a tool to judge cases to show justice. "Zhi" in the ancient Chinese character "灋" refers to Xie Zhi, symbolizing justice. The image of Xie Zhi is still widely used in modern Chinese legal circles, such as the logo of courts, law firms and law schools. The Book of the Later Han Dynasty records that the King of Chu once captured Xie Zhi and made hats in his image, which shows his important position in ancient culture.
