This article introduces the characteristics of overseas Chinese in terms of language and cultural inheritance motivation, ethnicity, and identity recognition, as well as the national research of four scholars on the inheritance, motivation, and ethnic identity of Chinese language and culture in different countries. Indonesian Chinese adolescents have a high degree of autonomy in learning Chinese and a strong sense of ethnic identity, but their understanding of Chinese language and culture relies on Chinese language education. The research on ancestral language governance of Singaporean Chinese families proposes the concept of "ancestral language governance", which believes that the family embedding method is an important mechanism to promote the formation of the ancestral language governance system. The learning motivation types of Thai Chinese inheritors are a fusion of instrumental and integrative, and motivation types have a predictive effect on learning engagement. The relationship between identity recognition and learning motivation of Japanese Chinese language learners is closely related, and learners with a strong sense of identity have stronger learning motivation.
