Case background

This article introduces the case background of the exploration and practice of primary school English curriculum education based on the concept of "gear effect". In traditional primary school English teaching, there are problems such as a lack of Chinese discourse system in teaching language and cultural settings, a lack of awareness of mother tongue cultural inheritance and output in curriculum education system, and insufficient motivation for teenagers to learn responsibility. To address these issues, the author led a team to introduce the concept of "gear effect" and explored the education of primary school English curriculum through three stages of practice.

Harvest and Reflection

The focus is on the exploration and practice of primary school English curriculum education based on the concept of "gear effect", and the gains and reflections. Firstly, it emphasizes the cultivation of students' comprehensive pragmatic ability to tell Chinese stories in English, and cultivates patriotism and cultural confidence through negotiation surveys, group cooperation, practical experiences, and other methods. Secondly, a horizontal and vertical linkage mechanism was proposed, including the linkage between basic education and universities, the establishment of a self-development and growth mechanism based on a timeline, and the participation of teachers and students in international cultural exchange activities to enhance their sense of social responsibility and mission. Thirdly, guided by the "Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards (2022 Edition)", we will promote the transformation of English curriculum from "exam oriented" to "education oriented", and implement the fundamental task of cultivating morality and talents. The case results have been published in multiple journals and showcased at the Education Innovation Achievement Public Welfare Expo. Finally, with the introduction of the "double reduction" policy, it is necessary to continue thinking about how to efficiently operate the linkage mechanism between basic education and universities, play the role of educating people, handle the contradiction between personalized learning and universal teaching content, and move from "learning for speaking" to "learning for speaking well".
