The importance of integrating reading and writing teaching in improving students' language learning efficiency was emphasized, and it was pointed out that in the context of the "Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards (2022 Edition)", teachers should incorporate reading and writing integration into unit teaching design. The chapter discusses the viewpoint writing that primary school students must learn, as well as the importance of implementing viewpoint writing teaching in primary school English teaching. At the same time, it pointed out the problems that teachers face in teaching viewpoint writing, such as unclear concept cognition, lack of in-depth study, and lack of process guidance. Through interviews, it was found that teachers have deficiencies in the design of reading and writing teaching activities, viewpoint writing tasks, and writing evaluations. Finally, it is proposed to explore the teaching strategy of integrating elementary school English argumentative essay reading and writing from the perspective of the whole unit.

Teaching strategies for integrating reading and writing of argumentative essays in primary school English

Based on the theme of "Human and Nature", this study explores the teaching strategy of combining primary school English argumentative essay reading and writing through the unit teaching practice of Module 7 in the first semester of Grade 6 of the Foreign Language Research Edition. Firstly, the teacher analyzed the significance of the unit theme and the discourse correlation, and designed a unit framework with "Amazing Animal World" as the theme, consisting of three sub themes and four class hours. The third and fourth class hours are continuous reading and writing combined courses. Next, the teacher conducted an in-depth analysis of the reading discourse "Amazing Pandas", clarifying the connection points between reading and writing, including the theme and content, writing purpose, text structure and language characteristics, and guiding students to understand the text structure through an umbrella organizational chart. On this basis, the teacher designed a realistic viewpoint writing task called "Amazing Animals" and provided a list of writing checklists to help students clarify writing points and self-evaluation criteria.
