Peter Ackroyd is a prolific and unique writer in contemporary British literature, whose works span across various genres such as fictional novels, non fiction biographies, and biographical novels that combine both. Although his works have received attention in China in recent years, there are relatively few academic articles that delve into his ideas and works. Guo Ruiping's doctoral thesis and monograph "Peter Ackroyd: Historical Writing and Britishness" and "Research on the Narrative Art of Peter Ackroyd's Novels" are among the few academic works dedicated to studying Ackroyd. Guo Ruiping believes that "Britishness" in Akroyd's works is a core concept representing British culture, national spirit, and identity. Professor Wang Shouren pointed out in the preface to Guo Ruiping's book that exploring Britishness helps to understand the unified thinking and historical value of Akroyd's works, as well as his maintenance of national culture and profound emotions towards the nation and the country.
