摘要:In Australian society, the issue of racism continues to affect Indigenous communities, posing significant challenges to their wellbeing. The Mayi Kuwayu research project at the Australian National University has conducted a series of national surveys and studies on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, deeply analyzing their wellbeing in the context of racism. The research reveals the profound impact of experiences with racism, cultural factors, and community engagement on the health and wellbeing of Indigenous groups. Key findings from the Mayi Kuwayu study indicate a significant association between exposure to racism and psychological distress among Indigenous peoples, while cultural participation is positively correlated with levels of wellbeing. These findings not only emphasize the importance of culture in enhancing the wellbeing of Indigenous peoples but also highlight the necessity for combating racism and promoting social justice.
摘要:This article examines the unsuccessful 2023 Australian Indigenous Voice Referendum, employing it as a lens to explore the race relations between the non-Indigenous Australians and Indigenous communities, with a particular focus on the specific manifestations of racism: apathy, disregard, and cultural blame. The article then investigates how the ideology of whiteness and the implicit process of “normalization” exert persistent effects on the society and hinder reconciliation. Amidst these challenges, this article seeks to find potential opportunities for promoting reconciliation between Australian Indigenous and non-Indigenous groups, thereby advancing towards harmony.

摘要:There used to be more than 250 Indigenous languages in Australia. Currently, over 100 of them are used, while most of them are endangered, and only less than twenty Indigenous languages are active. The number is on the decline. Since the 1970s, the government of Australia has initiated the protection and research of these endangered languages with funds and specified projects. Besides government agencies, Australian universities, research institutes, and NGOs all attempt to protect and revitalize these languages with ancient origins. This paper examines the development and changes of Indigenous language policies, analyzes the current situation and problems, and makes suggestions for future protection.
摘要:Australian national cultural identity has always been an important topic in Australian literature, and aboriginality is an essential part of Australian nationality. The Indigenous poet Kevin Gilbert shows remarkable Aboriginality in his poetry from four aspects: language forms, subject matters, cultural elements and political appeals. He describes the living situation of the Aboriginal people with distinctive Aboriginal English and presents distinctive Aboriginal culture by incorporating Aboriginal myths into his poetry. Unlike other Aboriginal “protest poets,” Gilbert, with a more radical political stance, not only criticizes the oppressive white people, but also the Aboriginals who are complicit with the white people and calls on his fellow Aboriginals to revolt and regain their land rights.
摘要:Benang: From the Heart is an important work by Australian Aboriginal writer Kim Scott, which deeply explores the complex process of Australian Aboriginal identity construction and cultural regeneration in the post-colonial era. This paper makes an in-depth analysis of Benang: From the Heart through the lens of post-colonial critical theory. During the colonial era, white settlers systematically oppressed Aboriginal Australians through land dispossession, cultural devastation, and identity erasure. In the contemporary postcolonial context, the protagonist Harley and his family navigate cultural fragmentation and identity crises while confronting the challenges of postcolonial identity construction. By re-examining personal histories and cultural inheritance, they engage in processes of self-identification and identity reconstruction. Regarding cultural regeneration and collective agency, the Indigenous community achieves cultural revitalization through reclaiming traditional practices and consolidating communal solidarity, demonstrating significant resistance against cultural hegemony.

From Aboriginal Literature to World Literature: The Mutual Learning Representation in Alexis Wright’s Works
Vol. 2, Issue 1, Pages: 59-69(2025)
摘要:Alexis Wright is one of the most prominent Aboriginal writers in Australia. She interweaves the “Dreaming Time” myth, history and reality of the Aboriginals, presenting a series of “fables” with a sense of epic to readers. From the reappearance of history to the deconstruction of colonial authority, it is not only the beginning of national consciousness awakening but also an important step towards multicultural symbiosis. With the vision of “mutual learning” in world literature, and through superb language skills and narrative strategies, Wright creates a kind of Aboriginal literature which has its cultural “roots” and can dialogue with world literature. Its strong vitality may indicate the possibility of building an “Aboriginal community” in the future. Confronted with today’s global ecological problems and the cultural impact of “homogenization”, Wright’s Aboriginal literature has brought many inspirations: only with strong cultural self-confidence can we better defend our national land, and we must have a vision of “mutual learning” to continue the common culture and civilization of human beings.

摘要:Australian Aboriginals have been a research subject for Chinese scholars in recent years; however, studies specifically addressing the health issues of this population remain relatively insufficient. Based on the data from the Australia Bureau of Statistics, this article analyzes the health status of the Aboriginals, especially their life expectancy, self-assessed health status, long-term health conditions, and health risk factors. It also discusses the difference in health status between Aboriginals and non-Aboriginals. In general, health conditions of the Aboriginals are inferior to those of non-Aboriginals. They need to make greater efforts to match the national level of health in the future.
摘要:This article examines the process and results of the 2023 Indigenous Voice referendum, analyses the reasons for its failure, and delves into the systemic hindrances to Indigenous empowerment in Australia. The research is based on the speeches of six well-known Australian public figures, Linda Burney, Jacinta Price, Anthony Albanese, Peter Dutton, Stan Grant and John Howard during the Indigenous Voice referendum. Through a critical discourse analysis of their speeches, this study finds the three major hindrances to Indigenous empowerment: Indigenous dispossession of discourse power; Indigenous issues as a political tool; and racism and micro-aggression.
摘要:Zhou Xiaoping’s new autobiographical writing, From Crowds to Wilderness, is an echo of the three well-known questions: “Who am I?” “Where am I from?” “Where am I going?” The author integrates, through his own experience, the traditional Chinese philosophy of art with the Aboriginal Australian culture and challenges the Manichean allegory deeply rooted in Western culture. By living among and working together with Australian Aboriginal artists, Zhou Xiaoping has made conspicuous achievements and his experiences serve as good examples of intercultural communication.
